What are different dimensions of PMAY scheme?

  1. Under the scheme, the government has the objective of In-situ-redevelopment of slum spaces by converting them into urban areas. The idea is to turn the kutcha houses into Pucca houses so that dwellers don’t face any problem in extreme weather conditions.
  2. The government further aims to provide financial assistance to the economically weak strata of society by giving coverage of Rs. 1.5 lakhs for the construction of the house.
  3. It also plans to build houses following the RERA(Real Estate Regulatory Authority) guidelines. It is also obligatory to use efficient materials for the construction of these houses and if a failed contractor needs to make arrangements for repairs within a week.
  4. Further, people can also avail of the credit-linked subsidy for the construction of houses at subsidized interest rates if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Construction of house through credit linked subsidy: Home loan borrowers can apply for a home loan under the PMAY scheme for a tenure up to 20 years. However, they should not have availed any other government scheme and are first time borrowers. They must not possess any pucca house or another house in order to avail of the credit-linked subsidy for the home loan.
