What to do Before Leaving for a Trip

Leaving for a Trip

Heading to a beach or a country abroad? Have fun! But first, there’s a few things you’ll want to accomplish before you embark.

Confirm

First, you’ll want to make sure all of your reservations are confirmed. If you are staying at a hotel, renting a car, or taking an airplane to your destination you’ll want to double check everything is accounted for. Avoiding any surprises when checking into your hotel or going through security at the airport will save you a headache or two.

Pack Your Bags

Going on vacation requires you to bring your most essential items. Create a checklist of items you need on a daily basis such as a toothbrush, contact solution, and a phone charger. When packing your clothing you’ll also want to check out the weather to make sure you’re packing appropriate clothing for your travels.

Prep Your Home

Not only do you have to get ready for your trip, but you should also make sure your home will be ready for your absence. You’ll want to ensure that your security system is in check and functioning well. You’ll also want to empty any perishable foods from your refrigerator and pantry so you don’t come home to any smelly surprises. Don’t forget to place your mail on hold and notify a trusted neighbor that you will be away for a backup security system.

Pay Your Bills

Once you get to your destination you’re not going to want to worry about whether or not your electric bill was paid. Therefore, make sure all of your bills have been paid on time or if you’ll be away when they are due, pay them ahead of time to avoid any late fees.

Furry Friends

If you have pets, you’ll need to make arrangements for them too. Neighbors or family friends may be able to pet sit while you are gone. However, if that is not an option you may need to seek care for your animals at a kennel to ensure they are well taken care of while you are away.

Bon Voyage

Right before you leave, make sure you have locked all of your windows and doors at your home. Ensure that all of your valuables have been properly stored and locked away and that all electronics have been unplugged. Don’t forget to close your curtains or blinds, take out the trash, and shut off any lights before you lock the door on your way out.

These tips should help you transition from daily life to vacation mode. If you’re planning to travel to the East Coast, you may want to put searching for Alexandria houses for sale on your itinerary. After all, calling a place home that is someone else’s vacation spot sounds pretty nice.
